The past few years have been full of adverse weather
conditions. There have been floods, blizzards, earthquakes, tornados, and
hurricanes. All of these have taken people by surprise, and their lives have
suffered. There are some ways you can start preparing for adverse weather.
The most important thing is to be prepared. Make sure you
watch the news, the weather, and local social media sites. This will ensure
that you know what is coming. If you are aware in advance, you can become
prepared in advance.
So how do you prepare for something you aren’t sure will
come? You assume it will come. It is better to be safe than sorry. If a
possible flood is coming your way, make sure you clear your basement the best
you can, secure your home, and prepare to be stuck in your house if it comes to
that. This means preparing your generator, food and water supplies, and battery
operated radios and flashlights. If it is snow, make sure you have supplies
need for that. No matter what the weather forecast, make sure you are prepared
with the recommended supplies.
Always have a family emergency plan in place. If you have
family at work, at school, or traveling, it is a good idea to have a plan in
place and know that you are all on the same page. You can find information on
making a family plan Here.
If you are expecting high winds, go around your home and
make sure items are secured, grills are covered, and shutters are closed if you
have them. It is also a good idea to keep items from being pushed up against
your house because animals may take shelter there and eventually work their way
into your home. Use tarps to cover items
that you can’t easily secure, and bring items inside if possible.
